Art History Lecture: "The Yves Saint Laurent Revolution"
As I anxiously anticipate the YSL Retrospective at the De Young museum, I couldn't help but to attend the lecture given by Jill D'Alessandro. The lecture was a melange of ysl's history and influences, and I never tire of looking at photos of the beautiful pieces that he has created.
It was stated that all the pieces that are in the retrospective are solely from the Pierre Berge Foundation archive and
no pieces were pulled from the Museums archives. YSL has made an appearance before at the De Young in the Nan Kempner exhibit, as he was one of her favorite designers.
The exhibit will be divided into four categories:
- Masterful pencil strokes- follows his work from sketch to final garment.
- The YSL Revolution- Influence on today's designers.
- The Palette- How YSL used color breaking rules of design.
- Lyrical Sources- Haute Couture and Inspirations (Mondrian, Picasso, Braque, etc)
At one point in the lecture Jill mentioned that the team was currently upstairs unpacking the pieces. At that point I could only imagine the pure bliss I would experience being up close and personal with those pieces. Like everyone else I will have to wait until the opening , unless I somehow finagle a press pass or invite to the opening party..........
