Escondido Hotel Oaxaca, Mexico
When traveling, finding the perfect place to stay, I believe, is essential to the trip. There's a comfort of returning from a day's adventure to a place that encourages unwinding, relaxing, and being pampered, enter Escondido Oaxaca.
I instantly noted and fell in love with the decor. Intentionally minimal, with every piece being artfully beautiful and purposefully placed. I remember stating that I wanted my house to look like this. Blush-colored walls, pale brick floors, washed terra cotta planters with blooming greenery set the scene for what ended up being a phenomenal stay.
The suites echoed the calming minimalist vibe. The decor details felt well thought out, from lighting fixtures to shower tiles, lending to the comfortably chic ambiance. The original plan was to stay for three days, then head to the next city. The magnetic pull of the city paired with the magic of the hotel turned our stay into six. We spent our first few days in a suite with sliding glass walls that turned the room into an open-air experience, surrounding us with greenery. Our second suite offered space and light with 20 feet ceilings. The design brought the outside in with the sunroof that gave a view to the pool level above. Bamboo covered the glass ceiling filtering the light through beautifully.
The hotel provides plenty of areas to lounge. An inner courtyard with tables ended up being the perfect place to catch up and get work done. The central water fountain provides a soundtrack of relaxing flowing water. Next to the courtyard was a gorgeous indoor-outdoor lounge area with a beautiful brick archway, comfortable couches, and pottery that line the space.
The rooftop pool is where we laid down a wealth of time soaking up the sun. With views of the mountains on the horizon, it was the perfect place to sip mezcal cocktails, take a dip, order lunch, and enjoy the view and sounds of the city below.
We spent mornings sipping soy lattes and having breakfast in the quaint on-site restaurant. Our stay included a continental breakfast that didn't disappoint. On days we wanted to lounge and not scour the city for a restaurant, we ordered in. The food, along with the service, was phenomenal.
A hotel with a beautiful design that provides a level of comfort is a recipe for a great stay. When you mix in superb service, it's the icing on the cake for a memorable stay. The staff went above and beyond. From helping make dinner reservations to booking our next charter flight, they didn't hesitate to step in to ensure we were taken care of. Escondido Oaxaca made this long-awaited visit extra special and is also on the must return list.
