A Slice of Paradise: Why Pismo Beach Is Always on Repeat for Our Family Getaways
After the sunrise show, we grab coffee and head to the pier to listen to the waves and watch the surfers catch them. There’s even a small playground on the pier, perfect for Rio to burn off some energy while we savor our coffee and the ocean view.

A trip to Pismo isn't complete without visiting Avila Valley Barn. It's the ideal place for kids to explore and enjoy the outdoors. We love browsing their rustic farm shop, which is filled with fresh produce, baked goods, and knick-knacks. One of our favorite traditions is picking up a bag of lettuce to feed the animals. The goats, donkeys, emus, and cows eagerly await their snacks!
Rio's favorite farm activity, aside from the old tractor that kids can climb on and pretend to drive, is the freshly roasted corn. Sitting on a hay bale and munching on his corn has become his must-do farm tradition.
Some places are beautiful, while others provide peace and relaxation. Then there are those rare locations that feel like a natural extension of who you are. For us, Pismo Beach embodies all three qualities. It’s a place that feels instantly familiar yet never loses its charm. It's quiet but full of loud beauty. Whether planning a weekend getaway or taking an unplanned road trip, Pismo is always the destination we return to without a second thought.
Maybe the magic lies in the ocean air or the golden sunrises that look like Mother Nature is showing off. Or perhaps it's how Rio lights up when we say, “Pismo,” like we’ve said the magic words. Like magic, Pismo Beach has cast its spell, leaving us enchanted and eager to return.
